Aviation Week publishes, “Guideposts of Defense Industry Change”, a commentary by Steve Grundman which uses the backdrops of the summer’s messy withdrawal from Afghanistan to explore “how waves of change can suddenly culminate into an inflection that resets the foundation in which a strategic posture, of companies as well as nations, gets disrupted.”
Writing in Aviation Week & Space Technology, Steve Grundman considers the application to the defense industry of Professor Richard Rumelt’s guideposts for analyzing industry-wide change. In three of them–rising fixed costs, government policy, and what Rumelt calls the revelation of the customer’s “attractor state”–Grundman finds evidence that a wave of change is building that holds the potential to reorder fundamental forces shaping the defense industry.
