Aviation Week publishes “Heed the Marshall Maxim”, an appreciation of Pentagon strategist Andrew Marshall by Steve Grundman

Writing in the Up Front column of Aviation Week & Space Technology, Steve Grundman reflects upon a key precept of Andrew Marshall, the storied director of the Pentagon’s Office of Net Assessment, who famously insisted, “I’d rather have decent answers to the right question than great answers to irrelevant questions.” In honor of Marshall, Steve takes up the challenge by proposing “three questions whose answers may help illuminate choices about the strategic management of the nation today, its defense establishment, and the industry which serves it.”
